To protect your DVDs and display them in the best way possible, to make it easier to find movies when you want them and DVD furniture made of wood works well. These durable and beautiful wood pieces have different slots for each of your DVD movies. You can go shopping for one or take the time to make it yourself. The benefit of taking this on as a DIY task is you are able to customize it and get it just how you want it.

Start by finding a plan. You can find and download one off the Internet in a matter of minutes. Do not worry about the details of the unit because the structure of it is what is really important here. This will help you get the basics of building your DVD storage tower, then you can add on or take away as you like.

You can choose whatever wood you want, although it is best to go with a thicker more durable wood such as oak. Oak does not disintegrate if exposed to moisture and are easy to paint or stain.

Once you have your plan and measurements ready, start cutting the wood. You will need at least five pieces: the top, bottom, and four sides. After that, it is pretty much up to you how many slots you want to hold DVDs. Regardless, make sure that you measure twice if not three times before cutting because you can only cut once.

Once you have all the pieces cut out you can use some carpenter’s glue to start gluing them together. It may be handy to use some clamps here to hold the DVD storage units wood pieces together while they dry. Using screws is also important, to ensure the strongest hold. Do all of this before staining or painting, so you can cover up any little pieces of excess glue or screw heads afterwards.

Decorate the storage unit however you want and you are finished. You can even take it a step further by building your DVD storage units with doors, so that your media can be hidden from view.  Now you have a safe, sturdy place to hold your DVDs until you watch them.
